Considering Buying A White Rock & South Surrey Home?

)
It's time for another BC HOME HUNTER GROUP area update: Today it's White Rock and South Surrey, the Fraser Valley's, West Vancouver.
Parks: White Rock is filled with parks, both large and small. From the well manicured Semiahmoo Park along the main beachfront to the more natural Crescent Park or Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest. Birdwatchers will love Blackie’s Spit in Crescent Beach while pet owners will enjoy walking their canines off leash at the appropriately named Dogwood Park.
South Surrey Athletic Park is the sports hub for the area, with soccer, grass hockey and football fields, an ice arena, track, skateboard park, BMX and bike trails aa well as extensive softball and baseball facilities. Centennial Park not far away features tennis courts, another hockey and curling rink. Public horseback riding paths are located nearby in Campbell Valley Regional Park, a 2-square-mile (535-hectare) valley located east of 200th Street in Langley. Golf, golf and more golf, South Surrey and the region is home to some of the west coast's finest golf courses and clubs.
Shopping: Once a shopping hinterland, White Rock now has almost everything you could want. Semiahmoo Mall is located in the heart of downtown White Rock. Peninsula Village features Safeway and London Drugs while SouthPointe has Save-On, Staples and Canadian Tire. The newest shopping areas are Morgan Crossing and Grandview Corners, where you have an outdoor shopping village. Across the street, more shopping with Restoration Hardware, Home Depot, Wal-Mart. Future Shop. The Brick and many other major names.
Ocean Park is South Surrey and White Rock's version of Edgemont Village (the timeless North Vancouver village) has its own shopping area as well with a Safeway, bakery, banks and many other shops and services. Elgin Corners is smaller, urban shopping ‘mall’ with coffee shop, fitness gym, produce market and other convenient shops. All of the neighbourhoods and communities of South Surrey and White Rock are renowned for being very friendly, safe, quiet, clean and stunning areas to live.
Access: White Rock is located just off Highway 99, immediately north of the Canada/United States border at Peace Arch/Douglas, 45 km south of Vancouver. It takes just under an hour to drive from downtown Vancouver to White Rock. The US border crossing is just minutes away.
Looking for some reasons to call South Surrey / White Rock home?
Climate: This area is one of the sunniest in the Lower Mainland, with about 20 percent more sunshine than Vancouver. Often while the rest of the region is under glowering cloud, White Rock will still be bright and clear. Temperatures seem to be a bit more moderate here as well, with summer averaging about 23 degrees Celsius and winter averaging around 6 degrees C.
Being at sea level, snow is also a rarity. The white stuff can be falling up the hill in Central Surrey while it’s only misting down in White Rock. With such balmy weather, it’s no wonder that the beaches here are so popular year round.
Beaches: If you enjoy waterfront strolls, you’ll love White Rock. From White Rock Beach, with its 2.5 km promenade running almost the entire length of Marine Drive to the casual gravel path along Crescent Beach, you’ll be sure to find a favourite spot. Dog lovers will appreciate East Beach, where they can unleash their friends to frolic in the waves. There is a smaller off-leash dog beach area in Crescent Beach. Even if you don’t get down to the water’s edge, almost everywhere you go in the area you can find an amazing ocean vista.
